I've long been a fan of OUP's Very Short Introduction series, and it's an honour to be a part of this series for young readers. I'm very excited to share that my book entitled 'The World of Music and How it Moves Us' will be published by Oxford University Press on the 2nd May 2024 🙌🏾
This book aims to gives young people a glimpse into the world of music, exploring how we physically experience sound, different instruments from around the world, and how music has been used in many social movements. They will meet people who have helped to shape music as we know it - Emile Berliner, Hildegard von Bingen, Beyoncé, Zhu Zaiyu and Mozart just to name a few!
To try and make this all fit into a very short introduction was a big challenge, especially trying to paint a picture of music that spoke to many styles, histories, and social contexts from around the world. With the help of a great editing team, wonderful illustrators, and the amazing Diljeet Kaur Bhachu, I think we've created something very special. Can't wait for you all to get your hands on it!
