Last week I had the pleasure of talking to Patrick Johns on the Music Teachers' Association Podcast. Conversations like these are crucial in not only helping music teachers feel that they are not alone, but also empowering them to ask questions and to learn. It's understandable if you feel scared or unsure about SoW or how to teach certain genres – don't be afraid to ask questions, read and make mistakes. If your efforts are coming from a genuine place of wanting to learn, be better and do better, mistakes can be addressed with understanding. After all, these processes of decolonising music education, addressing biases and how understanding how white supremacy has shaped our world will take time and effort. But don't worry.
We're all in this together.
